I thought I’d try a new blog “segment”, if you will, on my favorites of the month. Whether it surprises you or not, I enjoy watching “monthly faves” videos and reading blog posts of a similar nature. I think it stems from a lesson I learned from my dad when I was pretty young: try something new otherwise you’ll never know if you like it or not. Granted, the advice was about me trying clams for the first time only to discover that I did in fact like them, but I have always remembered that advice. And since then I have been much more open to trying new things. That is why I like those videos and posts so much. Because they are basically doors waiting for me to open them. Here are a few of my favorites from the past month.

Earlier this month, I wrote a post called “‘A riot is the language of the unheard’ -MLK” about a topic that could be considered controversial. I have never been prouder of one of my posts and it is on the list of my favorite posts that I have written so far. It didn’t get as many views as some of my older posts, but it was something that needed to be said. If you haven’t read it, you can click the link to do so, and please feel free to comment your opinions on the topic.

Another favorite of mine would be The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I had never been before because the last opportunity I had was back in seventh grade when there was an Ancient Egypt exhibit and I had swine flu and couldn’t go on the field trip. On Martin Luther King Day, it was a free open house event and my mum, brother, two of my friends and I all took the train up together. Although I didn’t spend as much time as I had hoped in the museum and there was a whole lot of people attending the event, I still had a wonderful time and can’t wait to go back. Also, if you have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it.

In the beginning of the month, I got a little essential oil diffuser. I was sick at the time and had some essential oils at home, so I thought, why not. It wasn’t terribly expensive compared to some that I’ve seen in stores and is small enough to fit perfectly on a windowsill. I have used it almost every single day while I’m home and often at night. It runs on an automatic timer for about three hours or until the water level is low. I must say it is one of my best purchases of the month. Personally, I recommend getting one especially since they are safer and last a lot longer than candles.

The reason I say ‘one of my best purchases’ is because I also went to Target several days ago with my brother to help him find some work-appropriate clothing for his new job (he and I now both work together) while I waited for him to meet me there and while he was in the dressing room, I hit the clearance rack. I wasn’t going to buy anything for myself, but this girl loves a bargain. I got some clothes that I don’t really need, but when I tried them on in the dressing room, A) I looked super freaking cute and B) I thought I looked super freaking cute. I have always struggled with my body image and being in the changing room, a place I used to break down in tears all too often, I had the biggest smile on my face because I liked what I saw after hating and criticizing it for so long.

And last but certainly not least, my blog. Thirteen Miracles has been a part of my life for a few years now but not many people knew about it because I was a bit embarrassed by it and never really talked about it. It was just going to be something I did occasionally but eventually grew into something I really enjoyed. Still, not many people keep up with my blog, but I am creating content I love and feel passionate about and I am proud to share that with the world. Now I know blogging isn’t everyone’s forte, it didn’t use to be mine. But I encourage you to try something new and if you find something you enjoy doing, run with it. You never know where it could get you.

Hopefully, these posts will get better as time goes on and I figure out what the heck I’m doing. And I hope that this inspires you to try something new.
